I havent seen vortec heads in life but i have read that runners are much taller than in earlier heads. so old torque manifold may not have enuf material to seal even if you drill those 4 holes to bolt it in. I believe that performer for vortecs is the best and easiest way out of it. these heads are produsing much more power than earlier designs. And as far as i know
allmost all heads/blocs do interchange. those ls1 engines are hole different story anyway. lt1/lt4 are reverse cooling systems,so no interchange to older.ls1 same thing i believe,atleast book says no interchange for pre 93.(if its only cooling problem i guess that someone has done it anyway)I dont know what other heads do not interchange so these may not be the only one.

Should cost no more that $50 to have bolt holes drilled. Vortec head are no taller than the old style heads. The Vortec heads I run are 2000 models, the intake is early 70's. No runs, no leaks, no errors!!
