vortec tunnel ram

I have a new 1996 GM 5.7 vortec engine with automatic tranny(purchased for a chevy truck). The engine is complete with TBI system including all sensers and computer. I am installing this engine in a 34 chevy street rod with a 1987 Z28 Borg Warner 5 speed. I would like the engine to look "old school" with a tunnel ram dual four setup. I have a couple issues. #1 how to get 80's dual four barrel intake to fit "vortec" heads and #2 does new flywheel require "internal" or external" balance

If the engine has a TBI, it is a 1987-1995 engine, and a tunnel ram will fit those heads with a little mod, but it will be so far of a mismatch it wont be funny.. Best bet is to get some decent 64cc heads, camshaft that will operate at about 2,500 RPM+, dual holleys on the tunnel ram and it will run decent.

If its a real L-31 vortec motor with the vortec heads. casting #062 or 906
Then you can create your own street tunnel ram "Hi-'Ram" using the (vortec head version of the) Weiand Stealth Ram base EFI intake manifold and the dual carb top from a PN #1984 tunnel ram for the old style heads.
You can buy just the Weiand dual carb top as a service part. You will need to block off the EFI injector mounting holes in the manifold. ( Epoxy )

Look in the Weiand intake manifold for the part numbers.

Edelbrock has a cool dual quad hi rise dual plane RPM style manifod for vortec heads. Add some big 2"+ carb spacers for the tunnel ram look.

About the only two ways to skin that cat.

Edelbrock had some old vortec style intake manifolds for the Black Scorpion Mercury Marine small block motor. Its a EFI tunnel ram manifold for vortec heads.

Edelbrock was making these for Mercury Marine and had a few for sale.

You would have to make a custom carb top for this manifold and block off the injector holes too.

check the Edelbrock site for these sell off manifolds and call them for info.

As stated: do not fconfuse a TBI motor with the swirl port heads, and a L-31 vortec EFI motor with 062 or 906 vortec heads.
They are both labeled "Vortec" but not the same at all.

Look at the intake manifold bolt angle. L-31 Vortec intake have 4 vertical intake manifold bolts on each side. The both use the same valve covers.
