Do you have any of your motor specs, chamber volume, piston dome or dish, piston volume, compression height, or anything to calculate you're current c.r.? How much compression are you looking for? Pump gas friendly? After 5500 rpm's do the valves float? That's not exactly a monster cam, but stock springs? Thinking about going to a 294 what? Cam?

I'm not sure what your thread title "Vortec 294???" means.

Simple answer, your springs aren't up to the task if you're floating valves, that's the end of the motor pulling or revving. Put in a larger cam and it'll get worse. You need to use the manufacturer's recommended springs for that cam.
