vss placement

on a turbo 400 chevy trans is there a place for a vss so tbi can be used?

Nope. You'll need one of the aftermarket units that goes on the speedo drive gear.

What is this going into? Some 1980s vehicles actually had the VSS built into the spedometer head. The speedo used a normal cable drive and incorporated a light chopper wheel that triggered the VSS optically. Most 1980s GMs with the computer controlled carbs used this setup.

They make one that goes where your speedo cable goes. You remove your cable and install the VSS then your cable hooks up to the other side of the VSS. I installed one in a 57 Chevy for a cruise control unit.

I used one of these on my TPI pickup with a 700r4.

the late t-400 used a reluctor wheel on the out put shaft and the VSS installed into the hole for the speed-O bullet.
Dont worry how old you are... it is the mileage on your body that adds up.
