Dual ports have 2 pipes going into the head from the intake manifold, single ports have 1.

Well either way, I guess it doesn't matter, only a 3hp. difference. I have a 1600cc single port in my dune buggy. It runs and goes pretty good. I put a new stock carb on it (30mm, not the 34) A Bosch 009 mechanical advance distributor and plug wires. (a.k.a Screamer kit) Open element air filter, and some headers. The engine is quite strong and really pushes the buggy around nice, no problems going 65mph on level ground. Haven't tried spinning the tires cause I ruined 1 tranny already that way. It even has a nice roar to it. Not a V8 sound, but good enough to make you look twice.

Vw Horse power Increase

Yeah Nix on the 009 Distributor with a Single Barrel Carb . << Causes badd Hesitation on the Romp . Not so noticeable with 30 Pict carb But real Noticeable with the 34 Pict . But either carb with 009 will produce a hesitation . << way's too tune it out ? But in depth Carb work need's too be done .

If Dual port or Single port even Dual carb's . << very expensive $$$ 450 For K- dogg's . On dual ports K- Dog's will work ? But I repeat ! There is no exception for Dual webbers ! << 800 Buck's Minimum $ All said and done ? Figure a Grand Total .

Other way On dual port is , Runn a single IDF webber , on a dual Isolated Manifold with the 009 Dizzy . Carb 450 Plus 75 Dollars on the 009 Dizzy .
Manifold for this sett up , come 2 way's . Aluminum Not Isolated <<, Junk ! No horse power increase too Speak of . Or Steel Isolated Intake Tube's . <<, Good one . The one you want .

Now All you gotta do is figure out Wich webber Carb . IDF 40, IDF 44 , Or 48 IDA's 1600cc No Cam IDF -40 be your choice .

60 Buck's will buy a Electronic Compu Fire Ignition . <<< I like mine !!!! But make sure wich Dizzy you intend too Use Afore you buy it .

Ratio Rockers 1;25 Ratio rockers will increase out putt . Camm's out of the question . Unless you splitt the Case . Rockers Bolt on ? << More on this later .

Exhaust . Yeah merged header's are great . easiest way too produce Horse power . But Wich ones ? <<< That's a tuff Question . Cause dependin on what your runnin ??? Is dependant on what I would Runn , in way of a Header . In Car's I prefer Heater Boxes V.S. J- tubes . << My personal opinion is that J- Tubes Eliminate the Heater . That and Runn Hotter than Stock or aftermarket Heater Boxes . <<< More on this Later !

Do not Runn Power Pulley's ! << Good for 1/4 mile racing only !

Total Damage ? IDF carb 450 $, Dizzy 75$, Exhaust 450$<< for descent one ? Ratio Rockers 90$ 70$ on Electronic ignition, Miscellaneous Unforseen? 200 $$ Yeah now you just spent 12- ta 1500 Dollar's on a 1600cc of 57 horses too get 65 Horse's ? <<, Just not much for the Money ?

Most likely also The Carb is too small ? And the Exhaust is Too Small ?

Best too keep 1600cc in my opinion Stock . Save the Hot rodd Part's for a Good 1776 cc Motor Add Another 500 Too the 1500 $ in Hot rodd Part's .
Try too Double the Horse power of 53 Horses Cause 57 Horse motor was the Dual Carb T-1 . But At Twice the Horses or Close too it . <<< Signifigant gaines !! More 500 Too a Grand or Less more + A Well built 1776 motor or Bigger for another 500 Too 800 more In a stroker Crank.

Not too say if I kept her Stock ? I wouldnt , invest in a Compu Fire Ignition . <<, Good deal there for any Buggy motor .

Yeah 2 horse increase is Claimed , on Old style Horozontal Oil Cooler's . By simply removeing the Debri Screen . Take Fann shroud off . On Oil cooler a Debri screen is Spott welded ontoo oil cooler . Simply work tack weld's back and forth untill breaks welds on cooler . Be gentle as possible ? But fairly easy . Remove screen !

This also help's in cooling number 3 cylinder , on old style cooler's , and fann shroud . Less Volume resistance on fair. Claimed too be 2 horse increase !

If your motor has ever been re- built ? I would bett money I could also Increase performance With Valve Geometry . Requires Valve cover and Rocker Assembly Removal . << More on this Later !

Thought You were Gonna runn the Auto Stick ?? << In my opinion Auto stick Car's are best Left Stock ?

The Pict Carb ? 30 Pict is Single Port . <, Exception of Few Dual ports Rann 30 Pict's . 34 Pict's is most generally the Dual port Carb . The 30 Pict carb How ever is the better of the 2 Carb's . Adapter Plate's Can be used too Runn the 30 On Dual port Manifold's, designed for the 34pict carb .

But The few Dual port's Rann a 30 Pict carb , with no adapter plate ? These were on 1300cc Cars But with Jetting Etc . I Got some pretty Good performance out of this Sett up on a 1600cc Motor with Engle 110 Cam .
Even tho Manifold's and Carb are smaller ?

Stay away from Webber Progressive Carb's . 1600cc Motors dont do well on the Smaller one's and or the Larger Prog . 1776CC is required too Runn a Progg succesfully ? Even then, they have there Problem's !

Like I said before . You can spend a lott of Money on Vw's wind up with Junk ? Or lil more than you had before ? At What Price ?

You need too learn your Cookies ? Alway's be on the Look out for Vw, Cookies ? Webber Carb's <<< Best Cookie 48 IDA's made in Spain 1200 Buck's ! Italian webber 48 IDA's Almost Twice that Dependin on How good a shape there In ?

Dual Port Head's . Look at your Carb Intake Manifold . Where it Goe's intoo the Head . 1 Pipe or A 2 Pipe Aluminum End Cast peice ? 1 Pipe Is Single Port . Aluminum Cast End's Goin intoo 2 Pipes Formed together is Dual port Head's . << Not too be Confused with Dual Releif Case ??/ You will hear both referd too in Vw's . Get Grandpa too explain it . point out Differences ??

Ok Ive Goofed off all I can . Walmart <<, Buy Hot Vw's Magg .

Sean

Go with a small turbo setup to draw through. A single T3 turbo or T25 would run nicely and could be found for cheap at a junk yard.

This system is a little crazy and doesn't fit under the hood, but a system could be built to fit. This engine allowed that bug to run 11's in the 1/4 mile.

There were some imported intake manifold center sections (Mexican, I think) that allowed use of a 30-PICT-1 carb on a dual-port engine.

Vw Horsepower Increase

Yeah that set up is ??? . I gotta ask does it Actually Runn ? What was that an Edel Brock ?? 750 CFm Carb ?? LOL Oh Come on your Hurtin me .

Typically 009 Dizzy , is a mechanically advanced dizzy . When used, with the Single Barrel Solex carb . Typically produces a Flat spot or hesitation , on Acceleration . << This can be tuned out . Too Some degree . But not worth time and Trouble .

Im bettin money youve turned the Throttle stop in more than 1/2 a turn , on lowest step of the Choke camm . << Reason you claim no Hesitation ?
This create's a Lean Condition, at an Idle . Skinny on a Bugg is a Badd thing ! Better way too do it is too drill the throttle plate .

Now Back too Turbo chargeing . Go intoo >> cbperformanceparts.com << These are typical Turbo set up's usin Dual Webbers and or Fuel injection .
With a T-3 Turbo. They fitt under the deck lidd of a Bugg . Least some of them Do ?

Now Go intoo www.turbohot.com These guy's are out of Riverside Ca. They use a Webber Side draft Carb with a T-3 <, Much simpler way of Turbo chargeing . Butt it doesnt fitt under the Hood ?

I actually bought a Tubeing bender , too play with Turbo Chargeing .
Several time's Ive been an Engine Ahead . Specifically for Turbo Chargeing .
But every time now for 2 Year's ? Ive wound up sellin my Spare motor too some one who need's a Motor ?

Have I mentioned my Lil Brother ? Yeah around here we Call him MR. Scatty Boo . 90MPH Forced down shift's intoo 3rd gear ETC. Yipp his Bugg addiction , is so badd I had too Cut him off . Im talkin an intervention !

But presently I am 1 Motor ahead . Sittin on shelf wrapped in Saran wrapp . But I have no time ?

Ive seen Turbo chargeing on T-1 with Several version's . Garrett T-3 , T-2 , Mitsu Turbo . With an Array of Carb's >. Webber Prog on Pull thru . Solex on Pull thru . Whole Webber series of Carbs on Pull thru and Push thru . Even 4 barrel Edelbrock's and Holley's << These are generally Full on Race 1/4 mile car's .

CB performance is probably the Leader's In Turbo chargeing Fuel injection Set up's . But realize that Turbo chargeing is out in No Man's Land . It's a Definate Go for what you know Enviroment ? Ya dont want Your Freind's too call you Mr. Scatty Boo ?

Im old School . Naturally Aspirated . Live in 118 Deg. Heat . I runn what has been Proven Road Worthy . << Mean's I like too runn triple Digit's across the Mojave Desert too the colorado River , or up too Las Vegas . Turbo charged T-1 Typically doesnt meet the Criteria . But there a workin on it !
Gettin better and better at it all the time ! MSD dizzy's on Computers ETC .
Very Expensive ! Like 6 Grand For the CB set up on Fuel injection. That doesnt include the Motor that's Gotta hang 450 Horses, or the transax.

Course 450 horses in a Bugg ? Not sure exactly , what you could do with that ? Sitt and spinn Like a Tazmanian Devil ?

Nah Problem with Turbo is Boost Raises CCR . Now were Off the Pump Gas Nipple . And on Raceing Fuel or Aviation .
Keep Boost down, too bring CCR down . Now were not Puttin out the Horses ?

Naturally aspirated motor's at 9-1 CCR . Stroked Typically turn out 220+ Horses on Pump gas , fairly easy .
They just had a Motor Build off , down below . Featured in Hot Vw's Magazine , this month .

Bunch of Guy's got together from different shop's , around the USA .
Rules were I think 2332cc Naturally aspirated , on Stock configured Head's , and Pump Gas .
Most Guy's were Runnin 9-1 CCR or Lil higher . Every one except Clyde Berge hit the 200+ Horse Range on the Dyno .
Clyde only Hit I beleive it was 184 Horses ? Not too good for the Son of one of the most famous Vw Guy's ever ?
But closer inspection of the article . Did reveal that Clydes Motor was only runnin 7.5-1 <<, Stock CCR Now that's a Motor that would Runn every day ! All day long ! Day after Day , After Day !
Way too go Clyde !

This whole Vw thing ! Is generally more Sophisticated ! Lott's more in Depth . Than most of your Average V8 Affeccionado's can even Imagine.

Only takes about 110 Too 120 Horses too out Run a stock V8 65 Stang Puttin out 220 horses on a 4 Barrel ? Takes even less than that too beat one across the intersection , and shut her down . Bugg's are quick ! 1/8th mile fortay . Can be acheived at around 90 horses .

How Fast Does a Badd Bugg Gotta Be ? >> Fast enough too paint her, Brite Tomater Red ! Etch >> Wow I just had a v8 in rear window glass ! Cause anything faster is just kinda Redundant !

Im still crackin up over that one ! Way too go Mr. Scatty Boo ! << Guy crack's me up ! Yeah when he isnt Cryuin about needin another Motor ?
I gotta get my Digital goin and figure out how too post pic's in here !

That turbo runs great! It is a holley 750 3310 with vacuum secondarys. The secondary system has been modified to open under boost. Crazy to drive on the street, wants to turns sideways in 3rd gear! With 14 psi of boost and 1776cc dual port engine with a cam, it runs mid 11's at 116 mph. However, this is just an example. A smaller turbo with smaller pipes and a single carb, maybe a single SU from a 240Z, would make nice street power on a stock bug engine.

A turbo from a 300zx or 280zx (T3) with the built-in wastegate set at 8 psi and a single SU carb from a 240Z will make that little bug engine come to life. And these parts can be found at your local "You-Pull-It" type junk yard for less than 100.00. Then do a little pipe fabrication, run a oil line and drain line to the turbo, lock the distributor at 25 degrees, fab the carb linkage and air cleaner, and drive. And you don't need a muffler with a turbo, since a turbo is considered a legal muffler.

8 psi of boost will turn a 60hp engine into a 95hp engine. But the biggest improvement will be the low rpm torque which will make the car feel much stronger than 95hp.

Then later add some better heads and some higher lift rockers for a 80hp non-turbo engine, then 8 psi of boost will add 1.544 times the power for 125hp. Then later up to 10 psi boost for 135hp, which is a lot of hp for a bug.

Yipp my ideas' on it . Local Bone yard . Yeah too continue the Clyde Berge 2332CC Motor story . Mr. Scatty Boo Got my Hot Vw's Magg ? << Torque'd me off !

But Clyde Installed this naturally Aspirated Motor in his car . After the Build off Dyno , of 184 horses ?
Then rann a Cool 11 Sec Et at Irwindale Speed way !
Pretty Cool for a Naturally aspirated motor runnin a stock 7-1 CCR ?
Wish'd I could find My Magazine ? I would give you guy's Actuall Number's ?

Yipp why I bought the Tubeing Bender ? But I just built a 1776 That Dyno'd at 100 Horse 106 On Torque . <, That's with K- Dog's . quiet pack Exhaust on Kymco Header. With Gauze Air cleaner,s installed . On a very Tight Dyno !

In fact I was asked if I wanted too make number's up ? Or Did I want, too See , what it was Gonna putt out installed in the Car ? Runnin down the street with Exhaust on it, air cleaner's etc. ? 100 horses at 106 torque ?

Im Fairly Confident , With Webbers , Velocity Stack's, a Mega phone exhaust . Could have easily made up number's , of 110+ horses . <<, That's with a stock reliability of a 1776 cc Motor 8.5-1 CCR on Hemi cut 041 Head's ? Clyde Ported polished the Head's, on this motor ! Yeah should gett it every day ! Year after Year ! Descent Fuel Mileage, Too Boot !
