waking up a stock 350

Hey,
I picked up a 350 from a friend. Its from a '75 c20, all stock. I did some research and found it to be a 175 hp motor, which sounds boring. Before I drop it in my 63 c10, what should I do to wake this thing up? i heard the heads suck, 3998991 and to put a rv cam in it. I'm not trying to run 9's down the strip, just want it to be fun. and i dont care about mpg's because it will just be a weekend truck. Thanks for the help,
Mark

Use the search function here, this is the single most discussed motor on the board.
