Wal-Mart Announces Massive Rollback...

I know we have some people here interested in Wal-Mart happenings. Thought you might like this article about the recently announced massive rollbacks at Wal-Mart:
Quote:
"Just in time for the holiday shopping season, we're rolling back...in every department—housewares, automotive, health and beauty, and so many more!" Wal-Mart president and CEO H. Lee Scott Jr. announced at a press conference. "From Baton Rouge to Boise, we're continuing our tradition of low, low prices...to create unbelievable savings!"

I'd like to see them roll back all their cheap junk to China where it came from.

That really concerns me. I realize that Walmart does alot for the comunitite that they are in. They also provide alot of jobs. I just look at what happened to the building supply sector here.

We used to have a Home Quarters(HQ), Hechingers, Builders Square, and Lowes. Hechingers and Builders Square left. Then Home Depot came in with their promises of better service and prices. They built within 1/2 mile of HQ and across from Lowes, and cut the prices on everything. They had experienced people in all areas, with great service. HQ closed up and left the area. Now Home Depot has no one there to help most of the time. If you see someone and start their way, they turn around and go the other way. The stuff they carry is not comparable with Lowes in quality, like it is knock-offs. Their prices are also higher than what I believe you would have to pay if they hadn't chased away the competition.

Walmart has seen the fear in the eyes of Kmart and Sears. They are going in for the kill, by lowering their prices even more. Obviously, being the largest retailer, they can get the best prices, and sell for less. If they chase Kmart and Sears out, they will be in retail heaven.

Jon, I didn't know you read the Onion. A little tongue in cheek humor directed at the money gluttons in Batesville. How much Christmas shopping have you (you, as in our members) done at Wallymart this year? I've done none. Dan

I HATE Wal-Mart! Their business practices have made a mockery of fair play, business ethics, and the free market. Having said that, my wife shops there all the time. I can't ****** about it 'cause she pays for all the stuff herself.

Did all my shopping at Canadian owned stores! Zellers, Superstore, the Bay. Don't think I bought anything @ WallyWorld. Now I'm glad.

Chickie.

I would have to say by the wording...this looks like a spoof to me.
Do you honestly think that WalMart officials would really be bragging about that in an open, in-your-face manner like that?

What a boobyhead I am! I just looked at that site.

It IS a spoof site. I've been there many times. They are great at being politically incorrect, also!

I STILL hate Wal-Mart!

WALMART IS THE DEVIL!!

I'll be so bold as to say that American buying habits are becoming more and more online. It's the way of doing business in the future.

I guarantee internet shopping is killing the traditional department type store. What does this mean long term?

I'm fascinated on how distribution and marketing will play out in the next few years. Somebody is going to perfect it and they will become the next retailing giant.

Right now, I think it's lots of little guys chipping away at the big guys. They are doing it from their homes, and it's going into the little guys pockets. That makes me very happy, and it's good for the economy.

Brian

I agree completely, but.....

Where I live, you can't buy crap, and most places can't or won't order for ya.
Therefore, I usualy wait until Dec 23rd, and hit Target and Walmart.

However, In the past year I have been doing a lot of business online, including EvilBay. Lemme tell ya, it was a helluva lot easier to find and original 60-63 small block hydraulic clutch bellhousing on EvilBay, than spending hours on the phone calling every junkyard the area.
You can find almost anything you want, and don't need. Plus, if you are careful, it can be had pretty reasonably.
The time savings alone is worth buku's to me, as it is over an hour drive to the closest 3 Wally's. The best thing I've ever found in Wallyworld, was the discount DVD bin.

Don't even get me started on Target. It seems the are actually a french owned corporation. I'd have to dig up the article, but it said that they would not support the Marine Corp's toys-for-tots program, and were denying employment to Guard and Reservists, because their "company protocol" did not allw them to give the time off required under their terms of service agreements. Several other items were cited, but I'm not gonna report on them, until I find it and read up, again.
