Question Want to go from 2:43 limited slip to 3:73 limited slip

I own a 1979 pontiac trans am with 2:43 limited slip and want to change out to 3:73 limited slip. My car has a 403 putting out about 350hp with a 2500 stall. It is fairly fast once I get to moving, but is quite a dog off the line. I figure 3:73's would help a lot and still be able to be a daily driver. I have heard I need a whole new carrier assembly. Is that true, and if so do you know a place to order the parts from?

Talk to the Tech guys at Summitracing when you order the gears, you can either use a spacer or I have heard on here that they now make gears ie.. the 3.73's the are thicker already so they will bolt right up to your carier. Gears are the cheapest way to make HP 3.73's should be fine if you don't drive the Interstate! Make sure you have someone that knows what they are doing shim your new gears with a dail gage mounted on a magnetic base, all that info will come with your gears!
