Want my back issues of Street Rodder?

I am house cleaning and want to give :D my back issues of Street Rodder magazine to someone. They are complete years 1987 though 2002 plus a few individual earlier copies. They are too heavy to mail or UPS but if anyone that lives in upstate NY/New England is interested, let me know and arrangements can be made.

I don't want to break these up, but want to "donate" the entire collection of ~200 mags - what the 'donee' does with them is up to him.

I need to do the same with all my truck magazines and probably the same amount. You just hate to throw that money away

When I got married I cleaned house - Volume 1 Number 1 of Hot Rod Magazine went to the dump (I may be old but not THAT old). This is just house cleaning - no new wife.

You guys are killing me here. I have saved all the magazines I've bought and won't get rid of them. I just always packed them up and brought em with me whenever I moved. I've bought a few old issues too from the hobbyshop that you could get for a buck or so. I find myself buying far fewer these days with all the information on the internet, but to me those old magazines I kinda treasure. I would be upset if they were somehow ruined or thrown away. Plus looking through them again, it kinda make you remember back to the days you first read it. I still know somewhat of an idea of which magazine a certain article may have been in, and can narrow it down when I look back through the boxes of my old magazines.

So that explains it, I'm staying single. I am too much of a pack rat.

Yeah, but you're still a kid - I've been swap meet selling my mountain of treasures for several years and have partially (mostly !) financed my latest project by having a 'revelation' that some of those treasures might really be worth a few bucks rather than gather dust and rust in my shop or garage.

(You really don't want to know about that complete 285cid full race flathead that is now buried under a parking lot - that's about the only treasure that I wish that I had kept.)

.

Problem with eBay now is that there are 97 copies or more of everything and has driven the price down below what it's worth by the time you get done with the listing fees. I buy a lot there but seldom sell though did sell a '57 T-Bird transmission for a LOT more than I paid for it :D

I'd rather give them away than go thru the hassle.

You might want to ask at your local city library or even your local high school library to see if they want the collection. Personally, I think it would be great if you could give access to all that great literature to dozens and dozens of young people.

[added in later edit: If I'm not mistaken, you can also write this type of donation off on your taxes...assuming you are in a tax bracket where that would make sense.]

I only wish that I could donate to a library or high school - or anyone that could make use of them. The local school here is being enlarged and have no space - and a new library is being built and they have stopped taking any donations for the next several months.

As far as tax write off - need all I can get, but not sure this would qualify.

Go to a local car show or cruise in, dump all the mags in your trunk or bed and put up a sign that says "for free". Then watch one after the other bite the dust

Wait a second here......
Did you contact the Auto Shop teacher at the high school? I'll bet HE would want them for his classes. LOTS of tech info. Thats where mine go. Or you could take them to the BOCES up there.

I have all of mine stored out in my shop in steel filing cabinets.

I've gotten someone elses collection for free, plus I buy about 2-3 mags a month. I stash them all away in my closet on the floor. I have 2 piles, one for the regular mags and one for the ones that have ideas in them I wanna use on the '26 (how to make your own steering column etc.).
