They are around but pretty hard to find. Maybe check ebay.

I had one made for my G body. He used an 8.5" out of some other car, narrowed it and welded on the appropriate mounting brackets. If somebody has a jig, it's not a huge job and shouldn't cost too much. I had it done by a rearend shop that specializes in race and high performance applications. They did it no problem. Just another option for you. Good luck,
dh

What did u do about axles? I can buy a 12 bolt and shorten it and use the remain parts my from 7.5 to make it bolt it up, but i dont want to spend $300-500 on custom axles.

Dont mean to hijack, but I could also use some info about modding an 8.5" rear to fit my G body . I have an 8.5" from an 86 Caprice with 3.08 gears. It is too wide and the mounts dont line up right. How much does it cost to have it shortened and new axels put in if I stay with its stock R&P and carrier?

I had custom axles made for it. They weren't cheap, but I was looking for long term reliability with decent power going through them.

I don't know too much about modifying a caprice rearend. I would think though that all the mountings would have to be cut off and correct ones welded in the proper orientation. And of course, it the housing would need to be shortened and custom axles made. I'm not entirely sure how much that would cost. When I had mine done I had the whole thing done at the same time: housing, axles, eaton posi, new gears. I would guess prices starting at a couple hundred for the housing, and $200-300 for the axles. Other people on the board here could certainly give you more detailed information because they know more than me.
