Post wanted, ford tranny . u pick

i have a 94 half ton with an electronic shift.anyway, the electrical is shorting out somewhere for the tranny, and it slips before hitting gear.i need to haul a 23 ft trailer with this twice a year so i need a decent tranny.does anyone know of a good old bread and butter tranny that will bolt up to my 302 with little problem and maybe shift without the use of electricity,i realize the kickdown for the shifter may not get hooked up, but i can drop down a gear if i need to.mike

C6 would be a good choice. I would, however, rig up a downshift linkage for that. There are cables that you can get to do it. The cable is cheaper than a rebuild. Pulling a large trailer, you'll burn it up without it.

The cast iron case FMX trannies were put in taxi cabs and police cars for a good reason, they aren't the strongest trannies compared to a C6 but better than a stock C4.

the tranny will downshift when you come to a stop, but youll need some sort of kickdown linkage so itll downshift a gear when you punch it. Lokar makes some nice lookin cables.

Mustang... Thanks for pulling me out of that one. Yes I meant KICKDOWN linkage. A few years ago I had a customer that had had the trans rebuilt in his Ford pick-up. He took it out and put it back in. I know the shop that did the trans, and they do good work. He didn't put the linkage on there, and burned up the trans cause he didn't downshift it when he was pulling small hills. I got to rebuild it for him that time, and put the linkage on there. He didn't have any problems after that.
