Wanted to say THANK YOU, pics included.
I wanted to thank everyone that offerd a newbie some advice. You'all really saved me here, I spend months reading old post and in the knowledge base.
Wanted to specifically thank: Deadbodyman Kenseth17 Sunsetdart turbot You guys really made my first paint job a true success. I can't thank you guys enough. If you guys are even in the Knoxville, Tn. area let me know I owe you a beer. I'll let the pics speak for them selves. Not really a hot rod but my first entire vechicle painting: When I got it: http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...oden79/1-2.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...oden79/2-2.jpg Let the body work begin: http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...9/PIC-0049.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...9/PIC-0050.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...9/PIC-0051.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...9/PIC-0057.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...9/PIC-0060.jpg No pics of primer but we all know how that looks. so on to paint Base: http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...9/PIC-0085.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...9/PIC-0098.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...9/PIC-0100.jpg My "spray both" http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...9/PIC-0099.jpg |

Color sand? block down and complewtly reshoot? Also i have just alittle trash in the paint that fell after spraying, nothing terrible. I just need to buff it out. If anyone has any tips on buffing out a little trash let me know. I was thingk sand with 1200 and then buff. Thnaks every one again. Le t me know what you think. |
Crappy cell phone pics that really don't do the shine justice.
But it passed inspection. The twins approve! http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...9/PIC-0093.jpg Proper foot gear is a must: http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...9/PIC-0091.jpg It will end up somewhere in this neighborhood just green and shinnyer: http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3.../dscn1644e.jpg It'a lot of custom work with alot of items from 3 decades of Jeeps all roled into one rig. |

Knoxville LOL IM IN BLOODY SCOTLAND :D :D
Real nice job you have done there thats quite a tricky paint job for a novice congrats !!!!!!!!!!!!!! on the wet sanding the runs start with 1200 grit wet with a block and level the runs then with 1500 then 2000 grit and then start buffing hope this helps tommy |
good job ! Congratulations !
in any profession,business.... the difference between a Pro and an amateur....how well the mistake(s) are taken care of ! |
Congrats, give yourself a pat on the back.
I would wear proper footware in the garage. Not only is it easy enough to drop something on your feet while working in a garage, when your spraying products, especially with isocyanates, you want all exposed skin covered. Besides isos being able to enter by breathing them in, The skin will absorb them, and they are attracted towards moisture (cover your eyes too) . I like leveling most of the run by scraping with a razor blade. The method has been mentioned in past threads. And finish up leveling with a hard block. But you will want to allow those runs a chance to cure up a bit, or else you could tear off the clear at the heads of the runs if its still too soft. |
I'm going to wait a week before I try any wet sanding. I need a break. I have been working on this thing almost non stop for 3 months now.
I'm very happy with the paint. I was very surprised that I was able to get the metallic down with out splotchyness our tiger stripes. |
Hey J thats pretty nice work there! I am also a Newbe that is attemting the very same thing and I am also relying on the Old Deadbodyman to help me through. All i can say if it comes out anything like your Jeep i will be very pleased! Nice Job!
