Wanted to say thanks

I posted asking questions about flatheads and wanted to thank those that responded. Haven't had a chance in the last couple of days to get back in here. But thanks for the input. If I am understanding the responses correctly, I should be looking for a '49-'53 Merc or truck block????? This, again, will be going in a '48 F1 pickup. I did steal "Tex Smith's Flathead V8" book from my neighbor. Hopefully he won't miss it for awhile. My little pea pickin brain is gettin a little over loaded at this point, but need to read the whole book. I'm sure I'll have more questions for you folks in the future. One more quick question.......in Tex's book, they mention that two Strombergs are better than three. Any short explanation for this?

Two reasons why two is better than three.
1) Fords only ran 239 cubic inches and some later Mercs at 255.
2) Flatheads don't breathe well at all. All the porting goes through the block and makes a bunch of turns.
In short, flatheads are just over carbureted with 3 carbs. Two makes much more sense on the street.
(Tri-power sure looks good, though!)

Flathead carbs

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the tri-power does look nice. Guess a guy could block the center carb???? But....will the two outside carbs distribute the fuel effeciently. Your profile states you are an electronics tech. You work for Tek? I was there for ten years. Left in '86.
