Washington's Axe

"Yes this is the very original axe that Washington used on his farm. It's had 3 new axe heads and 26 new handles, but it is the very axe he used"

I was just reading through some back issues of some of my mags and it occurred to me that Washington's axe seems to figure prominently in our world.

"This car as originally purchased by ("John Smith") in 19xx and he and his new bride honeymooned in it. They brought all 3 of their newborn babies home from the hospital in this car." (yada, yada, yada - you know the stories.)

Having found it in a barn in upstate North Rhode Calikansas, our hotrodder proudly bought from the grandson of the original owner.

Since then he has installed a complete new chassis under it from the ABC company. Since the original body was too far gone, a whole new custom body was fabbed using pieces from donor cars and a lot of handformed sheetmetal. The interior is now an entire new custom design featuring a hand-made seats floorboards and dash. Billet headlights and taillights from Xco are inset into the custom-built...

Yup - Washington's Axe. So, why did the mag spend the first 3 paras telling me about "this car was...", when there is not a single piece of "John Smith's car purchased new in 19xx" remaining?

OK - I'm just venting. I'll shut up now

You know the one that cracks me up, the "El Matador". This famous custom was found a few years ago after it had been destored in a garage fire, having the burning garage fall on it! The thing was DESTROYED, and on top of that after the burning it was set out side to rust with all the protection provided by the paint burnt off!

You would have had to have a BIG passion to rebuild this particular car to do it, it took cutting up another 40 Coupe and many fenders and such to rebuild it.

So the guy spends a zillion hours and two zillion dollars restoring the body. Then put in a 5.0 with air conditioning out of a 90s Mustang!!!! WHAT IN THE HELL DID HE SPEND ALL THAT TIME FOR???? He ends up with a car "sort of" like the El Matidor!
