Watchin Gas Monkey

Been watching Gas Monkey the past few nights.
They sold some aussies a 59 Bonneville, that was absolutely hideous.
Rawlings paid too much for start. I dont get it. He buys Nice cars for dirt prices and buys total derelict rides for top dollar. Rawlings has no buying skills it would seem.
He paid 10K for the Bonnie, IIRC. way too much. Then the budget was stressed from there on out. It looked like a bargain basement pile of *******.
It could have been a nice car.
Then He buys 2 decent cars for 8K a mustang and a 52 chev, and whines about the painted chrome on the chevy.
Not sure how they stay in business.
AND the 64 Dodge pickup is a complete debacle.
Repairing someone elses mess with no foresight on the build, like the front suspension, then altering the frame to fit the crown vic front clip, did they forget the frame hoilds the body on? I am suprised Aaron didnt see that.
Like I said , its a wonder they make a buck. As long as they still have rich Austrailians to hose, they wont go under.
Any thoughts?

i agree, how does he make money. almost ever car that went across the block lost thousands of dollars. but you have to remember he is most likely getting $20k or more for each show. then extra cash for a rerun.

Since it's "reality TV", it's mostly baloney and staged. I doubt if 50% of what we see is truly real.

It's TV. You know Ice T isn't really a cop, right?

I bet it's all BS other than the actual building. I watch it for the entertainment value

There is some definite flaws in the business model.
Plenty of wasted money, time and rescources.
I dont mean to boast, just thought it isnt quite a reality when it comes right down to it.
Some cars are bought too pricey, like the 75 charger. Ick
Some plenty cheap enough, and made a buck on.
Seems like they waste time looking for inventory, parts hardware etc.
They should have a small parts room , and anything that they remove from a car should be labeled for re use or re sale.
No stone left unturned.
I have bought and sold a few cars , and I am pretty good at the deal.
They do some good wor and some not so good work.
They destroyed a model A a while back that should have just been made to run and sold , intact with patina and all. Instead they spent a ton of money and threw half of it away to make something out of it that it should never have been.
Like I said, I see a lot of wasted time , money and resources.
I guess that goes with having to live within your means as I have had to for all these years.
Maybe I am missing something.
I know there has been contraversy about the stars in the past. Not lookin to get into a whole nother thread about that...just sayin.

The green Bonneville was a perfect example of a build that went in the wrong direction.
It was bought at too much money, then it was so budget looking when it was done I thought it was headed for the circus chinese fire drill.
What a shame, that car was solid body wise and could have been easily a very nice car when finished.
Even if they just cleaned it up and straightened it up mechanically and left it alone, it would have been better than it was when it left.
The black mustang that got wrecked was a crying shame. They did a nice job on that car.

The shop needs AC also. Too hot in Dallas at this time of year to do much of anything.
Happy workers do better work.

I remember some of what went on before with them . but as they say don't judge a book by the cover.on this years power tour I stopped by and they were both very kool. shop is neat and has some of those "big *** fans" so there is a steady breeze. my hat is off to both of them . they must be doing something right as the new shop is incredible
