I had the same problem.. my solution was to run a pipe right to the celing and back down ( about 6' ) to a water seperator.. now all the water flows down into the compressor.. drain it out once a day and it's good, never any water at the paint gun and the compressor gets pretty hot.. draining the regulator on the compressor, I had to put a small water seperator right on the compressor because the water would back trace right thru the regulator.. now the trap catches it and dumps it outside because it's self draining ( closes with preassure, otherwise open ) and I ran a line out the wall
