Water Jacket

Hi Guys,

I'm afraid that this is not really a hotrod question but...

I am working on a 350 SBC in a boat. One major difference between land and marine application engines is that raw water pumped from under the boat is used to cool the engine, and then the exhaust manifolds, before being pumped out the exhaust, muffling it as it goes.
My problem is that the water passages in the exhaust manifolds are all chocked up with rust, mud, the odd pokey thing I have lost in there trying to clear them etc.
Can anyone suggest any chemicals, or anything, that may help me to clear the blockage?

Thanks

Daved

Im not to familiar with marine apps. but a clogged passage in a cast metal is still a clogged passage. If you cant break it up by hand, try hot tanking the manifold. Otherwise save yourself the trouble and go by some new ones, besides that way you'll have the least water restriction anyway and less drag on the pump, thus saving bearings, belts pulleys etc.

As i said i'm not that familiar but logically that seems to be the conclusion.

maybe even sand blasting could take away some of the blockage.!!

Holly, the lines are like brake lines, so by hand is almost impossible. (just an FYI, not at all to bash)

Daved, do you need a muffler at your river/lake? I blocked mine off when I had my jet boat, and it just sounds better. Hot tanking would maybe work, but I would just bend some new lines. The lines are pretty cheap, and there's not too many complicated bends to it. Usually just one per line. But like I said, if there's no muffler law where you cruise, I would just block them all off!

Take the manifold off and back flush the exhaust coolant passages through each injector port, a little compressed air works wonders. Keep poking and blowin.
