Water temp sender for AFR heads

I'm sure this has been brought up before, but I'm not having much luck in searching.....I'm replacing my OEM Chev SBC iron heads with AFR 180 heads. The OEM water temp sensor has a 1/2" NPT thread, my AFRs have a 3/8". My OEM sensor calls for an 80 ohm reading at 220 degrees. I have been unable to find a similar unit the correct size. I have a depth restriction into the head of 1". My guages are all stock and work, it's a '73 Vette. My Wieand manifold has but one 1/2" tap, I need that for my heater hose. I would prefer not to have put a resistor into the electrical circuit. I have "heard" that a unit from a '74 Volvo or perhaps an '82 Vette unit might work, but I have not been able to find the ohm ratings for those and being a new motor, I really don't want "might" work......I've sent e-mails to NAPA, Borg-Warner, and Stewart-Warner, but no reply yet.
Any ideas or recommendations here?
Thanks as always,

John

Drill and tap it if you feel comfortable enough to do it.I did it on my SBC head.It already had a boss there.Don't know about your heads though.
