Water pump swap question

I have a 1990 "old school" 350ci SBC that originally came with the long style water pump. In its new home, a Mazda RX7, we have a clearance problem, pump shaft to radiator, making it impossible to use the puller fan I would like to install. If I could bolt up a short style pump, the kind used on earlier blocks, problem solved. The only accessory besides the water pump is an alternator, which is mid-mounted and on its way to low-mount due to hood clearance issues. So I'll just buy an alternator low-mount for a short WP. Will the short style pump fit my block?? Thanks!

Yes, it will bolt up. common mod for most street rods with small engine bays.

sure... if you still have the '90 water pump on it then the short pump will rotate in the opposite direction.
