wave plate ?

The Hughes TH400 race rebuild kit contains 5 Kolene steels for the forward and direct clutches and 3 for the intermediate clutch. It doesn't include any wave plates. The drums hold 4 steels and 1 wave plate or 2/1 for the intermediate. What is the effect of replacing the wave plate with a flat steel?

wave

It's my understanding that the wave plate is a shock absorber.

If you plan on this being a race only trans it can be removed. If you are doing any street driving i would keep it.....

install the waved plates in the forward drum ( With input shaft)...... and the intermediate clutch pack.

The direct drum .... leave the waved plate out if it had one. Use flat plate only
