Hi guys,

I just got my front fender of my 69' Javelin and noticed there was some type of weatherstripping pieces that are pretty solid, but when they were brand new were probably pliable. There held onto the radiator core support and upper section of the fender by it looks like staples. Does anyone know if most body work shops can replace this, or is there a substitute material out there that can replace it, and the staples? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure if this is the same thing you are talking about but on my 65 C10 the radiator has several kind of U shaped rubbers that the radiator sets in. Everywhere there would be metal to metal contact, there is a rubber.
The radiator is made of brass, and SOFT metals, and the brakets that hold it are STEEL, and very hard.
If the two contacted the vibration would wear holes in the radiator in no time.
The rubbers are not all that soft....not like window or door weather stripping.
As for the rubbers have little **** that fit in a hole in the braket. That keeps them in place.
I would think.....regular weather strip adheisive would take the place of the staples, and hold the rubber.
This is ALL just a guess though.

Ok if you look closely you'll see the staples on the back side of this panel.
This second photo you can see that weather stripping a bit better, it's the black looking stuff that looks like roofing shingles thats going around the perimiter of the panel.
