weiand 177 and water meth on sbc

i have a chevy 383 with 11:1 compression. i have the weiand 177 blower with snow performance meth kit. my question is i recently put a moroso oil water separator on the valve cover breathers. what im wondering is i went to check for solids in the tank (oil) and all i found was a water that smelled like meth. do you feel im spraying to much meth or is it normal. i put the tank on because i was blowing so much oil out the breathers.wasnt sure if i was spraying to much meth or if its normal. thanks for the help

I assume you're spraying windshield washer fluid? On my 8-71 383, with an AIS setup, it doesn't activate until 8 #'s boost, are you spraying from the start?

im running boost juice. i have it come on at 2lb and full pressure at 2.5lb. i have the 8lb pulley but cant get passed 5lb and having significant belt slippage. seems to run good. just trying to work all the bugs out. for every step forward i take 2 back. having fun though, just dont know anyone with blower or meth setup.

I've never heard of "boost juice", but having it activate at 2 pounds, that's playing it safe. If you're getting residue in your oil separator, sounds like it's getting past your rings and into you're oil, you have any foaming?

With a 6 rib serpentine belt you shouldn't have slippage, get some Loctite belt dressing.

boost juice is snow performances meth. 50/50 water to meth ratio. cant tell if im foaming, when i had the standard breathers i was filling them with oil and it was dripping out the breathers. so i really thought the cannister would have oil in it and was surprised to find water. when the truck is idling i see steam coming out the breather tank. and that is a very nice car you have. looks like it really wants to run. u have any youtube videos of it. thanks again for the help

Neither the alky in the separator tank, or that much blow-by is normal. You need to fix the blow-by first, the rest will take care of itself once that's done.

I used to have only 2 creatures. And 1 didnt have baffle and 1 was a pcv. So I now have 3 breathers. So the oil blow by seems to be better. As far as meth do u think I'm spraying to much. I know my engine wasn't designed for blower with such high compression. Thanks

You are going to have to spray early and use as much as is needed to control detonation as best you can, but there does come a point of diminished returns for spraying to quell detonation. If you use too much, the power will drop off, and in your case, you should be using race gas or possibly E85 and reduced timing. But what ever you do- you have got to avoid detonation, especially under boost!

If this engine has bad blow-by, that is going to cause detonation if the engine is tuned to max HP ignition timing, even if nothing else were going on.

If it was me, Id get to the bottom of the blow-by first, then I'd see about using at least E85 and I'd be keeping a close eye on the plugs for detonation and correct heat range along w/using a boost retard set to max degrees per pound dropped and work up from there.

But regardless of what you do, that's too much CR for any real boost if you're using pump gas.

thanks for the info. right now im running 50/50 mix of race gas c113, and super. i have a boost retard for timing whenever the meth is activated. kind of learning as i go. the more i have thought about it im wondering if the water in cannister is condensation. kind of like air water separator for my air compressor. bud i dont know much about the blower and meth and couldnt afford to blow engine and start over. i think i didnt have enough valve cover breathing. thanks again

whats the rate of spray on your meth setup ? you may be spraying to much resulting in some pooling in the cylinders.

did you break the motor in before installing the blower and meth ? your rings may not be seated yet, which would result in excessive blowby

50% of what? What size nozzles are in the kit and what pressure is the pump running?

your engine can only take so much meth, as after a certian point its just not going to evaporate any more (or more correctly, wont evaporate in the time between intake an exhaust strokes) which will lead to pooling

Where I come from, there aren't any cars that use meth, but you can sure tell the people that do.
