Weiand 6-71 or 8-71

Bought a blown 350 sbc from a widow. She knows nothing about the engine. In the process of tearing it down. Question is: how can I tell if the blower is a 6-71 or a 8-71? The gears on it are 34 drive and 38 top but I think both their blowers come with this gearing.

If I remember right, the case lenght of a 6-71 is about 15" and the case length of an 8-71 would then be 16". This does not include the bearing plates. I dont have mine available at the moment to measure, but if I am wrong, someone should be able to step in.

33 willys is right....6-71 is 15" and the 8-71 is 16". Measure only the rotor section. Usually the 8-71 extra length is to the rear....some are to the front too.

There is also a small case 6-71 which has a smaller bore but the same exterior dim. Makes a great blower for 350 sbc. Just run it about 5% faster than normal. Very strong case. You can also run them on a 383 with a bit more od. They whistle a little more as a result.

if it looks good, a 6-71, if it looks really big, a 8-71
