weld housing block

there is crack on surface of housing pockets which is made of cast iron i welded using nickel rods with pre & post heating arrangements but in boring process the hsg become hard, how to weld in future in such case,pl feedback

Hate to tell you this, but hardening is the nature of the beast when welding cast with nickel. To the best of my knowledge there is no way to anneal it either. The only way to weld cast and retain machinability is to gas weld with a cast rod and flux. Whole piece preheat, heat maintenence and cooling is an absolute necessity to retain machinability and to prevent recracking. It will still have some hardening, but not near as severe as nickel. The more you work it the harder it will get so machining has to be done in as few passes as possible. Hope this helps.
