I want to make a custom consol with diamond plate.my question is what is a good way to weld it as I can remember it is .063 of an inch aluminum. I have heard i would have to tig weld it, but it is such a small project and I was woundering if there is other ways?

Madmax, your definatly in for alot of work. TIG welding is an option, but you really don't need to weld it since it will not be supporting any load or doing much of anything other than a cosmetic peice. Brazing rods are available for aluminum, they are rods with a low melting point (700+*F, don't remember the exact number) They will work fine for you in this preticular situation, I use them alot in aluminum art and some custom grills. Just do a search on any search engine, there are hundreds of companies that sell them. Aluminum diamond plat isn't cheap or easy to work with so measure 5 times cut once and draw out what you want on paper before you start working. If you need anymore help feel free to contact me. Aluminum plate is coming down in price.Our local Lowes sells it now. Not sure of the price but when I get down there probably tomorrow, I'll check out the price. I believe the largest you can get though is 4'x4'.

yea I have heard of those brazing rods ...I heard they do work very well thank you. and I have seen diamond plate at lowes. it is like 24 dollars for a 12by24 as I can remember...in NJ.I have heard though that it is cheaper then this...yea I know I am in for a lot of work, but all that work will be worth it.
