welding in 4 link question

I have a 4 link for my mini tub 67 camaro, going to be mocking it up soon, when ready, is it best to stick weld it in or can i use my flux core welder with 35 wire?.. i have excess to a 110 stick welder, 40-100amp range with smaller rods. I have my flux core mig already.. just curios if i could use my flux core or not, whats best to use to get the weld strength and penitration for this type project

If you are using a 110 mig machine, using FCAW, I'd suggest tack welding the brackets and then taking the rear assembly to a fab shop that has a 220 volt mig welding machine for final welding.

Welding plate gauge components (anything heavier than 12 gauge) with 110 volt machine is a bad idea.

reason i ask, is i dont have excess to 220 in my garage attach to the house for a better welder.... spot welding brackets to rear end and taking else where not a problem, my issuse is the cross piece that has to be welded to the frame, car is not movable at the moment, frame off, just body on stands

For your long term safety,time to farm out this job.What gives a back haft strength goes beyond just the frame work.It involved the roll bar/cage as well and how that ties the front to the back.So the amount of welding on site is extensive.Either a flex core mig or a 110 stick welder does not provide enough penetration to fuse the metal together.It may appear as a good weld,but most certainly will fail.

yeah thats kinda what i was afraid of, ill figure something out in dew time for a better welder to get the job done right, dont want to launch hard and loose the *** end

The hidden underlying costs of any build is the tools and equipment that almost never gets any accounting for when you see a car at a car show or cruise night.That saving grace in investing it that is the long term returns long after the current car is long gone.

I wouldn't use a 110 machine to weld anything on a chassis..

Oh I understand, unfortunately I don't have any space avaliable on my fuse panel to add a 240 breaker, I might be able to tie into the drier, and run an 240 outlet to the garage , down fall is I won't be able to run drier and a welder at the same time without breaker throw

Build the wife a clothes line and buy a 240v welder with the money you'll save.
