X2, if you TIG it you will have to hammer and dolly it. You can MIG it with out any warpage at all. You just have to go slow; very slow.

Here is a better shot of the finished hood. It was pieced together on the car then over a period of several weeks slowly TIG welded back together. Ray whom the car belongs to is a superb metal craftsman as well as a primo paint & body man. The car was unveiled at Goodguys Lonestar two years ago and was featured in an article of StreetRod Builder.

Sorry Vince I missed a bunch of the last page ,that merc looks great...
Riot ....go for it ... you'll be glad you did...even if you totaly destroy the first hood theres still a bunch of them out there...it looks to me like the 57 top grill molding ,vette grill and the 56 bumper is a pretty common conversion but I really like the 55 headlight buckets a lot better.Wernt you thinking of doing that or was that someone else....
