Welding helmet shade lense problem???

Hey guys, I have a jackson welding helmet with auto darkening and my filter stopped working. I stuck it in front of a shop light for a few hours thinking since it was a solar it would recharge itself like a calculator but all it will do is blink and pulse really fast. My question was is there any way to recharge these or is it just its time to go? Its a shade 10 filter pearson with the date of 1/28/03 on the bottom. Is there any type of shelf life for these and how do they work?

Thanks for looking,

Kevin

Depending on which model it is the batteries in the Jacksons are replaceable, unlike most auto dark hoods. That sounds like it could be a battery problem but most of the time if you leave one with bad batteries in a bright light for a while, sunlight is best, it will usually work ok for a short time. You could contact Jackson they are pretty good about standing behind their products and they may be able to help you out.

Are the sensors blocked by a smudged cover plate? or possibly the sensors are smudged under the cover plate?

re: Welding helmet shade lense problem???

Thanks for the reply oldred. I cleaned everything off of it and let it sit most of the day under false lighting and a few hours under the sun, not it will blink on and off really fast but nothing consistent. I guess I will try leaving it out while i'm at work tomorrow and see what happens. We use the same helmets at work and have never had a problem but i'm guessing since my garage is so dark being that i'm only in it a few hours throughout the week and not even to weld that it has no time to recharge or maintain a charge. I will try going on the jackson web site to see if there is any kind of warrenty or maybe just incuire about a battery. Are the batteries inside of the black plastic lense?
