Welding sugar?

Anyone heard of welding sugar? Copper looking flakes the come off welds. I found what looks like copper flakes but smaller, a lot smaller in a oil pan. Someone mentioned welding "sugar". Copper looking grit or particles that are released from welding on steel oil pans. I've just started building my own steel pans and I've never run across this term before. I've looked at 3 rod bearings and two main bearing and found nothing in the filter either. I had a rocker come loose on break in and the poly lock was found on the other side of the head. The pushrod is bent at a 45 degree angle and was caught under the guide plate. The lifter was pushed out of the hole and I don't know if oil pressure was lost or not. I was playin with timing when it happened so I thought the change in pitch out the exhaust was me. Then I changed the oil to find what I thought was copper till I couldn't find anything wrong with the bearings. This is a 13.0:1 383 with Callies Crank, Crower Rods, SRP pistons and Dart 215 heads.

I know stainless steel likes a back purge of argon to prevent"sugar". Are you using stainless?

No, actually I was using 50/50 argon and CO2 till I ran out. I finshed it with flux core becuase it's what I had available for the short welds I wa doing.

I know, I know, I just wanted it done.
