welding suspension brackets on ford cast iron differential

how safe is it to weld mild steel suspension brackets to a cast iron Ford rearend..

I've seen quite a lot of this on pirate4x4, and I know a guy who's been running a competitive mud-bog racing Toyota with mild-steel brackets welded to the Chevy 1-ton axles' centers, no breakage in the last 13 years.

i dont know that much about it, but from what I understand
you need to preheat the cast iron
and use special welding material

X2 ^^, it can be done but, takes alot of time, heat & good welder.
Maybe easier to build a truss & use the Cover bolts for mounting. There's a Thread on here that shows an 8.8" Ford rear with Truss for use in a G-body 4-link suspension.
