welding wire

What size do you guys use for sheetmetal work on your projects? I find that I don't like .030 I'm running. It's hard to melt without too much heat and it grinds real hard. Maybe I need to run .023 or something else?

You will also need .023" tips, and your welder's drive wheels need to have a .023" groove or be adjustable tight enough to drive the smaller wire or you will have spit/sputter problems.

Definitely .023 Like Ericnova said, you need the correct copper tip and mandrel thing to feed it.

I don't know how experienced you are, but don't expect to weld a constant bead. Just use tacks every few inches, then fill in between and keep doing that until you have a solid weld.

If you have the welder set correctly, you'll see penetration on the back side of the panel. It will almost look like it was welded from both sides.

After you finish welding and grinding, hold a light behind to reveal any pinholes.

If not running a spool gun don't be surprised if you will also need a new teflon liner for the right sized wire. Particularly .023.
