Cool Well heres the deal

Hello All.
Just talked to the fella with the big ole 472 Caddy n T400 tranny. He said it was in a running car and ran great so I think Im gonna buy it.
I'll need to redo the tranny crossmember, shorten the drive shaft and change shifters. Then I will have to fit the big sob in the engine bay. Im gonna change oil pans, timing chain and freeze plugs to. The oil ilter is in a wild spot and hits the crossmember sometimes, so think I'll get a remote filter to keep it outa the way.
Anyway, Should be a trip to swap, but a heck of a ride when its done. HG

They made three different oil pumps for the big caddy's and they all point in a different direction.
I am willing to bet yours points mostly straight down and slightly forward.
Get one from a later model 425 or 368 that nearly tucks straight toward the bottom of the crankshaft pulley.
Need any sources for parts let me know I have some stuff laying around and I know who makes what for the big caddy.

It has the ront sump pan right now, but he has an eldo rear sump pan and pickup that he's givin away with it to.
MTS makes tons of hi po parts and I'll buy my gaskets n timing chain from them.
For now as mods go, Im gonna drop it in and go, but a shift kit, bigger stahl for tranny in the future will happen.
Motor wise, Id like to get a better ignition, edelbrock intake and new carb. But if it holds out a few years, I'll rebuild the whole engine and use the 500ci crank with overbore for like 512ci.
The rods for higher rpm's are weak, so I'll get some Olds 7 inch rods for em to. Basic rebuild with headwork, intake, carb n headers will get you 500 horses and 600+ ft lbs of tourque.
This motor Im getting with better ignition, intake n carb will get me 300+ horses and over 400ft lbs of tourque. All at around 36-3800 rpm's. Well C how it works. HG
