I shot at an Elk once, missed. He was wearing plaid pants with a checkered shirt, he needed shooting. (this one is older than me) Dan

Congrats on a great hunt!!! Not many people can claim a 7X7 elk by any means, much less with a bow!!! Now if you need someone to take a backstrap, I'll gladly pay the freight!!

Dinger, I'm awake now and I'm crying over here.

Trees, I'll go halfsee'z with ya. Get the grill out. Never have had Elk before, but if they can drive a 4x4 or 7x7, I'm impressed.

Tippin' over an Elk with a broad-head would be a real adrenaline rush - never done it before.

Was that Rocky Mountain or Roosevelt?

Mad, Elk, in my opinion is the best of the red meat family. ( Pheasant and quail are tops in white meat). And do I have some great ways of fixin' Elk. Now if the backstrap gets here...........

7 points on one side, 7 points on the other.
only whitetails go by the total combined point count...... in the big boy leagues

That is great!

Do you have plans for the rack? How about the hide? I know some folks into crafting, so let me know what you might be getting rid of...Its bad luck not to use as much of your kill as possible.

Crazy Larry, had to look closer to see where in Texas you claimed home. Last time I checked, Western Count on an elk or deer was the number of prongs/points on one side (typical has same on both sides) and non typical would be each side count like 5X6. Then you get to more than 6 points on each side, this is also non typical, thus 7X7. A six point Eastern count is a 3 point Western count. This Western 7X7 would be a 14 point Eastern. Got my points?

points taken

i myself have heard most people refer to whitetails in the "eastern" point count manner, but most everyone i've talked with about elk and mulies use the "western count"......
