Went through a garage

I went through a garage and I did not pay for anything. It was a woman's husband's shop and said I could have anything for free.My father know this woman very well and her husband passed away last week from a stroke. We knew her husband very well.Did not want any money out of anything.I took a Snap On toolbox full of tools, top and bottom toolbox.I was amazed when I got it home, some of the tools are like brand new never used full of Mac and Snap On tools.I took the the valve and valve seat equipment too,Snap On and Neway including a complete puller set,a 1970s Mac set with the on the wall cabinet.

Did she make the offer in the midst of grief? Is she aware of the value of those tools? Is she financially stable?

I supported her after her husband passed away and this was her way of paying back for what I did to her.She has money, was given his money after he passed away and it was in his will. This lady is doing very well and moving on.The valve and valve seat tools are over a grand. Her husband Stan was known as "Chevrolet Stan" and I got my advice on building Chevrolet engines from him.He had a book that he wrote his secrets,it is in his casket buried with him and wanted this book buried with him.

I'm a little confused. In your post #1 you say that her husband passed away last week. In post #4 you say that you supported her after her husband passed away. You supported her for one week? Then she gave you all of his tools that you wanted! I'm hoping you mistyped these details and that you really deserved to have these gifts. Take care of her!I think you owe her big time!

I have to correct something,I am still supporting her and her husband passed away last week Monday which the funeral was Friday.Offered her money for the stuff I got from the garage and she turned it down.Said to take it,free. She has money,54 years old and has $100,000.00 from a divorce settlement 20 years ago including this guys money which was handed to her. This woman,Kim and Stan were married for 5 years.Stan was 79 when he died.

Has $100K from a divorce that occurred 20 years ago??

Whatever. If you were hoping for a bunch of kudo's, I don't believe that's gonna happen. IMO you'd have done yourself a favor by keeping this "windfall" to yourself.

I think that you took advantage of the lady in her time of grief.

Give it all back !! Tell her thanks but, you have reconsidered her offer.

Stay close to her for support she may need it.

went through a garage

$ 100,000.00 from 20 years ago that's only $5000.00 a year without interest. that wouldn't go very far. and how much did she get from Stan. I don't think she had a clue what she gave away, and you young lady, ( and I use the term loosely ) should be ashamed of yourself. You did know what you were getting, and weather she has money or not, is not the point. You did not earn or deserve those tools for helping someone for one week.

The right thing for you to do would be give it back.

Bob

Found out today,it was in his will I get first pick including my father too of his tools and equipment when he ever went. She was in a previous marriage before meeting Stan which ended up in Divorce and in an agreement she signed that she got $100,000.00 if the marriage ended up in divorce.Has not spent a dime of that money and saving it.Stan had no children.
