what is it?????

Guys
how can you tell the difference in a 292 an a 312? i have a 56 f-100 the guy i got it from said that he was told that motor was a 312.Everone that i have ask says only difference in the two is on the inside.Is there anyway you can find out if its a 292 or a 312. thanks.......twincerely....Ron

my suggestion would be find the numbers on that block and do run web search that would be the way I would approach it ..

Casting numbers on the block are different, but the differences are inside as was said. Externally they look identical and, I'll have to look through some old books, I believe that some shared the same head. The casting number on the block would be the only certain way. Because they have larger mains, it would not have a 292 crank or something else, it will be a 312. I think that the 292 block was actually stronger, because of the larger bearings used in the 312 the bolts(mai caps)long or something to that effect.

oh wait i see on there now that the 239 was the only v-8 in 54(trucks anyways) ok

239 CID Y-block V8 1954-55 130 hp (97 kW)
223 CID Mileage Maker I6 1956 137 hp (102 kW)
272 CID Y-block V8 1956 173 hp (129 kW)


hmm


and, well since im already here now lol uhmm are all the lights on this truck correct ? turn signals on the fenders, or are those signal stat(name?) kit added ?

our fire truck,which is 59 f650 has the factory 292 in it.
