What automatic shifter is good

I'm looking to replace the current shifter in my car, I have a B&M sport shifter and it works fine but I can't utilize my full rpm band of the motor with out shifting the trans manually. The problem is, shifting a non-ratcheting shifter scares me, what if I push to hard and it goes into neutral. My question is, Is the B&M mega shifter a good shifter for a daily driver who occasionlly races, or would you suggest a different type of ratcheting shifter.

novadan, not sure what the shifter you currently have is, but you can get a B&M shifter with either a gated or ratcheting action. I have the B&M prostick [think thats the name] and I can tell you with confidence I throw alot of force on it from 1st to 2nd to 3rd during a pass. It is a gated shift, full manual, reverse pattern with transbrake. I have never had a problem with it missing a shift, positive lock in every position. Also if you ever do go past 3rd [reverse pattern] and hit neutral at least you won't hit reverse due to the reverse lock out, which is a separate handle you have to move to engage reverse. There are lots of different manufactures and lots of other opinions, this was mine. I'm done.
This is what I'm correcting in the bold print. I have the reverse pattern shift, so it is PRN123. The above description in bold would be for a stock pattern shifter PRN321.

I have a hurst pro matic 2 in my nova and love it. I had a b&m megashifter but the handle broke off in my hand one day. Also the t handle snapped in half as well. I ll never use b&m ever again.I know people have used them with no problems but theres hasn't failed like mine.

I think all the Hurst and B&M shifters prevent accidental shifting into neutral (or worse, reverse) through either a ratchet or gate mechanism. Even the low end models. The one to look out for is the Mr. Gasket low end shifter. That one CAN easily run right by high and into neutral or reverse.
