What is the best combination of carb/man for 305 chev

I have a 1963 Chev Bel Air which had a 283 originally.I broke the crank and subsequently purchased a complete 305 from an Australian importer. I am not
aware of the year of manufacture but perhaps someone could help with that
if i supply the engine number, When I brought the motor it had a 2 barrel carb
,I was not impressed with the performance as I was using it for everyday driving on our country roads. I am now about to do a complete body{4 new
doors and new bonnet from the States] New upholstery [I have fitted bucket
seats and back seat from a Ford LTD] full paint job, and full engine detail. The
whole lot will be done at the one time and the car will be reregistered for full
road use.I have owned and driven the car since 1988 and have long planned t5his move. Question is I will be fitting a set of headers to an otherwise standard engine but I would like suggestions as to a suitable compromise of
carbi and manifold.Although I have a 40 year history of involvement in
Australian Drag Racing I am a bit long in the tooth to be a street racer, so
please someyhing better than the crappy holley and cast iron manifold
from my old 283 that I have now. K.C. Australia.

For a stock 305, I'd use a Quadrajet on a factory iron non-EGR intake.

A good Q-jet is the way to go. call summit racing and look at a Jet rebuilt Q-jet (stage 1). I would also use a performer intake with that. And a compcam 252H or 206/206 110 lsa or a Edlebrock Performer cam, (204/214, 112 lsa) I think is the size.

Doug Thorley tri-y's in 14 gauge is a nice torquey header. Quiet too
