If you had to choose an 8cyl. 3rd gen (82-92) Camaro what year would it be?
I am going to buy a 3rd (82-92) gen Camaro soon because that is what I can afford. I was wondering what you guys think the best year is in the 3rd gen area. I know that performance generally went down on all cars from 73-82 because of insurance, emissions, etc. but I'm not sure how much better they got after 82. If anyone has owned a 3rd gen I'd like to hear what they thought about it.I would just like to know which years were the best made and fastest.
The best years for the third gen in my opion is from 83-86.They are easy to work on,easy to modify and are not glogged up with all the computer crap.I've had two, built the hell out of one of them and wrecked them both. They were a pile of fun.Damn shame the lady in the land yacht at 40th ave and center street in Calgary didn't see me coming though!
GM had fixed most of problems common to the Gen by 92. I'm looking for another sixer and intend to modify it for the V-8. Really simple to do and lighter to boot. Even after the swap.
I dont know how old your post was about 3rd gen camaros but i just thought i would say. I've been driving my 92 RS now for 2 years and its great rain, sleat and snow. i don't know how the older ones handle but all i know is i love it and yeah there so easy to mod. you prob already know this just thought i put in a few words.
Use this to help you decide. Like the others, I also prefer my 91. The TPI 305'ed Z-28's were about the strongest, best mileage engines. The 350's were also good, but teh TPI was built for the 305.
If you want fun...look for an 88 IROC w/ 5-speed. This 305 engine was just about 10 horses less than the 350. Had a much more agressive roller cam than the 350, and it was a stick. Chevy never make a 350 stick in a 3rd gen, so don't try looking.
Good Luck!!
