If it`s stock go with the performer plus. Add a timing chain and valve springs that match the cam while your in there. This little cam package will wake up the low end of your 460 with a set of headers, dual exhaust with crossover pipe.

a cross over pipe connects the 2 exhaust pipes so you can get a scaviging effect. If you have the room an X pipe does the same a little more efficently.

James, slow down. You are acting like every other 18 year old who gets it into his head to modify a motor. S-l-o-w down. You don't choose the cam first, you choose the cam last, after all the other components have been chosen to work together. And you don't start at the front of the truck, you start at the rear with gears, posi, suspension and tires/wheels.

Tell us about your truck and what you expect it to do. Tell us how much money you have to spend. Tell us where you will do the work. Tell us about your tool inventory. Tell us if you have anyone who is willing to help you and look over your shoulder to help when you get stuck on a problem.

ok i have a 71 ford high boy i don't have that much money but if i need the part i can come up with it if need to. Betsy(the trucks name) has a 460 out of a 78 Lincoln. she has a stock lift 4" a 4/10 in back & 4/09 in front it, a Dana 60 in back and splicer 44 in front.it has a long bed 8' & it has 235 80/r16 rim/tires it has a stock trany out of a 70s f150 . non married transfer case & stock carb

(just fixed them both, the axles because my dad pulled a double wide trailer house that was on a farm and the trailer hit a hole from a tree that the farmer pulled out & left the hole there. he cut the grass all the same height so we did not see the hole .when we hit it a tooth went through the pan. )

(the front went out going over a overpass & the yolk fell in to the diff and ripped in to shreds ) they were 100$ for each

to get back on subject. i'm going to do the work in my front drive way if need to i can clean out my car port. i have most hand tools no power but grinder and drills.

i want it to a be fun truck & it to be able to go any where.

this was my dads truck but he said that if i fix it he will let me have it as long as i take care of Betsy don't sell her. he will help me if i ask for it most of the time

OK. What I hear is the voice of reason. In order to go anywhere you want and stay together, all the parts that you replace on this truck must be coordinated to work together in harmony to make sweet noise. I know the first inclination is to change the camshaft, but believe me, there are more important things like all of the mechanicals on the truck. Start going through them one by one and bringing all the steering, suspension and brakes up to speed before you ever begin adding soup to the motor.

OK i'm going to by new shucks this week for the front .the splicer axle in front have a place for a shuck the hooks to the control arm & axle do i need that i have seen trucks the don't have that if i need it what is is called so i can get one

It's a steering dampener. Works just like the shock on a wheel to dampen rapid oscillations. Drive the truck in some different situations, off road, in and out of gullies and see if the steering wheel gets jerked back and forth. If yes, then a damper would probably help to control it. If no, then it would be a waste of money.
