I dont have all that much money ( make that no money) but I was wondering, What can I do to my truck to get better performance? it acts sluggish when I stomp on it, It seems to have twice as much power at half throttle than full throttle.
my truck is an 85 GMC Sierra Shortbed w/a 5.0 305, 2 wheel drive, automatic tranny.

start out with a good tune up, plugs, wires, cap, rotor etc, proper timing, properly tuned & working carb.John

I would change the rear end gears to 3.73's or 4.10's. It sounds to me like it could be lugging. I think you have a 700r4 tranny, so that shouldent hurt gas milege too much.

I have a 305 in my 70 Monte Carlo while the 383 is being built
I put an Edelbrock performer cam 423/442, manifold and DR needles in the stock Q-jet.Took it to the local track and ran a couple runs 16.1 ,15.9@86mph.That was the same as some of the new hemi pickups with the stripe on them and a full second better than the old blue Dodge pace trucks.Surprised me.

Oh yeah , had Flotech Afterbuner headers and a $6 recurve kit too.

305s can perform decent ..key is to not over build,
My 76 C-10 ran mid 14s with a mild 305 & my 86 Caballero ran 13.70s with another mild 305.. & that was with 3.08 gears. of course I realize dollar for dollar a 350 makes more power
