Question what can you do with an engine still in the vehicle

bit of a noob question this but; with the engine still in the car, what can you replace?

a friend of mine thinks that he'll be able to replace the camshaft if we can get the nose off the car (a 78 Camaro), and obviously I'll be able to get the intake and heads off, what else would I be able to swap out without taking the whole engine out? (e.g. pistons, rings, pushrods etc.)

thanks anyone for your help

I drive a 76 Camaro, and i already have done a cam replacement job, you will not have to take the front end off, but the radeator and AC condencer will have to be pulled out, other than that you can put a under drive kit on, head, cam, ignition bunch of others to just short of a total build up
