I know what you mean about real emotional ties...I'm emotionally attached to the 3 AMX's and the Corvette...the other ones, I like them, I want them done but, they aren't a major priority. My wife on the other hand is emotionally attached to her Eldorado...because I painted it to match her favorite shoes and purse...LOL.

I have had 7- 58 vettes, and if the weird part of me comes through, I like the 58 better then the 57, that is everyone else s favorite, although I have had 3 -57's, the 58-62 is number one with me.

Never had an amx although years ago I had one whip me in a Ram air 3 firebird and that did get my attention, did try and buy a nice one about 5 years ago but we were about $12000 apart on the money thing, so did not work out.

This is tough selling out my collectors as over the years I normally could do two frame offs a year after work and weekends with the corvettes.

Now I find myself wanting to bring something else home and actually stupped so low as to try and justify a Volks wagon last week, wife said it must be time to pick out a nursing home, so we scratched that idea.
Now I know how a drug user feels, trying to break the habit.

All I want to do now is drive on the nice weekends and maintain the cars i have, well once I get done painting the neighbors vette, that i promised to do.

Well Barry, I do agree, I like the 58 over the 57 or the 59 as well, what i like is all the louvers that was 58 only. My favorite year for a Corvette is 62. I like it for body style, it was the precursor to the Stingray and the first year for the 327. I almost bought one many years ago, so many years ago that I was still living with Mom and Dad...I was dealing on the 62 Vette and a 37 Chevy 1/2 ton...Both guy's last name was Wolf (very common name in the small Mennonite Community I lived in). One day I got home and my Mom had taken a telephone message for me. She told me that some guy named Wolf phoned and said he was ready to do the deal...I thought I was much closer on the 37 Chevy than the Vette so I phoned the guy with the 37. I remember the call as if it was yesterday. I said, "so I hear your ready to do the deal...dead silence and finally with some hesitation he said "Alright"...it was February 2nd 1974 and when I got there, he had the snow shoveled away from the truck, the battery was on the charger, I gave him my $117.50 and drove that 42 K miles 37 Chevy home. Three weeks go by and I phone the Wolf with the Corvette to see if he wanted to sell, he told me that he had left a message with my Mother 3 weeks earlier and I never called back so he took the car to Winnipeg and sold it. So that's my story on how I missed out on a 62 Vette but picked up a cool 37 Chevy, I've been looking for a good deal on a 62 Vette ever since.

I have always loved the 68 to 70 AMX. Ever since my neighbor had one and wouldn't sell it to me. What I like about them is that they are unique, the only 2 seater Muscle car ever built (unless you include the Corvette, some people call them a Muscle car, some people call them a spots car) and I like the production number plaque on the glove box door to, it's different and you always know which one you got. They had way to much power when you really think about it. The wheel base was the same as a Chevy Vega, 97 inches and they stuffed a 390 CID engine in it and rated it at 315 HP. Nowadays when I take it out, virtually nobody knows what it is, I get stopped by the younger crowd and I love to hear the guesses as to what it is...most of them haven't even heard of AMC, let alone an AMX.

I don't have a lot of money into my little AMC collection. I was fortunate enough to get them in the early 90's, before they started becoming real collectible.

As far as you needing a nursing home, I don't think so, but then again...a VW...The older ones are bringing a fair dollar today, especially that 23 window bus...tell me that's what you wanted to bring home Barry...LOL. It's not stupid, it is however a disease, one that I'm happy to have.

Damn, I'm long winded...sometimes I think life would be a lot easier if I didn't have a story for everything...LOL.

Ray
