what cc chambers do 236 bbc heads have?

I need to buy some pistons tomorrow for my 454 and need to be at 9.5 compression. I cant find any positive info on the combustion Chambers size. probably because no one wants to use these heads but hey its what I've got to work with for now. The heads are at the machien shop so I am unable to cc them. Any definate info is greatly appreciated. Casting #is 346236 came off an all original 1983 suburban. Going in my '88 fomula! Yeah I'm geeked! Thanx

Thanks for your reply Richard. I've been waiting on my machine shop to tell me what size bearings to get for a month and a half now. They are finally done! calling to get a rebuild kit coming and I hate getting the wrong parts. Thanks again, Mike.

They are "peanut port" heads. Small valves, ports and runners.

Like Cobalt327 said, those are peanut-port heads.
I'm thinking that most guys here would tie a chain on those and throw them over the edge of a boat.

Assuming that you're not going to use this engine to power a grain truck or something ... you'd be much better off with a set of 781 or 049 heads, which will breathe a little better.

I had a set of those same heads- mine were nowhere near 225 cc intake volume. IIRC, before porting they were 207 cc. It took a lot of porting- I mean a LOT- to get to 220 cc.

Valve sizes are 2.06" IN/1.77" EX.

Yeah all I did was a basic valve job on them ($220). Oh, and springs. I don't want to spend any time or money on these heads but I want my engine to run right. Financially I'm an Intake, headders, stahl, gears and a radiator away from getting the car on the road. It's getting warm and I'm paying cash for everything. Sometimes cash is hard to come by so I figure (heads) are an easy swap if I can get the rest done. I also figure that no matter how poorly these (heads flow) as a package it will be way more car than it was with a 305 TBI. Thanks for all the advice.
Mike
