Just a curiosity question. I was given a Ford flathead head which I want to put on the wall of my garage as a decoration. What color are original stock flathead engines? I would like to paint it after it's all cleaned up.

Most of the ones I get in are gray and rusty. The one in my 47 is gray.

Pre 1941 the answer is dark green, later years dark green, dark blue, bronze, tangerine, deep red....... Depends on the year, if it is a Ford vs. Mercury and if it was in a car or truck. Check out the "Engine Colors" Tab to the left of the screen at this link: New Page 1

Thanks guys, it's not a big deal I just thought I would try for original. The head gets cleaned up and painted and then maybe short bolts from the back to simulate studs. Thanks again!

Go buy some 3/8 stainless acorn nuts and glue them on.

Thanks lakesroadster for the page forward about the numbers on my head. I've posted them in hopes therre may be more information. According to the chart my head was cast between 36 and 42, would guess the other number is a location or part number. On the face of the head is a large ''A'' and just barely a Ford logo and below that is 42. Don't know if this means this particular head was made in 1942 or not. Any way it's wire brushed clean and will get a coat of green paint and some fake head bolts by the time it's done. Thanks again for the help.
