What color to paint steel rims?

I have an '85 C10 longbed. It's red, with a black cap. I am going to paint my steelies.

What color would look good on them? No center caps are going on them, just chrome lugnuts, and "chromish" beauty rings.

I am roughly thinking either black or silver/chrome. I don't think white would look good with chrome nuts and rings, and I think red (to match the truck) would look kind of silly.

Any suggestions? Black or silver? Or another interesting color that might go well with the truck's color?

----
Also wondering, if I go with silver or chrome paint (spray paint), you know how the metallic stuff always rubs off with silver spraypaint? If I clearcoat over top, will that keep it all on without rubbing off? Will the clearcoat stick to it?

I would paint them the same color as the truck, red. I did this once per request from a customer who didn’t like the silver rims that came equipped on his new truck. It gave the truck a wider look afterwards.

I’m getting ready to paint a 64 Chevy pickup that I’m customizing a little. It will be a satin cream. The rims are already painted red. I’ll post a picture so you’ll see how it looks.

Thanks for all the fast suggestions, guys!

I was at Canadian Tire (the big hardware/dept store chain here) and was thinking of Gunmetal, but they didn't seem to have it!

So I was thinking about the other colors there. Tremclad makes a Fire Red color that looks quite similar to my truck's color, but dammit I just can't bring myself to dig matching colored steelies!

I looked at Gold and Bronze, but I didn't think that they would fly at all.

I ended up just getting Krylon silver, with white primer and some clear coat for the top.

I have the wheels sanded and washed now, and once they're dry I'll be priming them.

I'll post pics once they're on.

Whoops, so I got the wheels done, but never reported back here. Sorry!

I wanted to go with gunmetal, but oddly enough, three major hardware/dept franchises here did NOT have any gunmetal. (Canadian Tire, Walmart, and Home Depot)

So I went with silver. I cleaned and rinsed the rims and roughed them up with sanding sponges, put on 4 coats of Krylon white primer (2 cans for 8 rims), and two coats of Krylon silver, (1 can for 8 rims). I didn't clear coat because they looked great anyway, and the silver didn't rub off like some metallic spray paints.

It came out looking pretty bright, although I naturally got some overspray on the tires since I didn't tape them off with paper. I just cleaned it with some varsol and a plastic brush, and made sure to rinse it well.

I haven't taken pics yet, but will do a little later, and post them.
