It depends heavily on the shade of red chosen. i once put PPG Frost blue pearl over Porsche Guards Red. i used just a little bit, like and inch on the paint stick to 2 qts ready to spray and put 2 coats on the areas I wanted highlighted and one coat over the rest (70 Cuda). The result was like grape soda under street lights and such. I liked it...so did many others. In bright sun it was very hard to see. The common approach is gold over red. But use caution since some golds tend to "brown out" the color. Be conservative and do a test panel. In most cases less is more when it comes to pearls.
