Another weekend has come and gone and I'm sure all of you have been busy in your garages.
I got the rebuild kits for the wheel cylinders in on Friday and took a quick look at them, looks like they sent me the wrong ones ain: I took all the brakes apart, front and back, and gave all the parts a good Varsol bath. Then I put them all in labelled zip-block bags and cleaned the backing plate, lotta old grease, oil and road grime on there, but now they're nice and clean  So as soon as I get back from vacation I'll rebuild the wheel cylinders, get my brake shoes relined, pass the saftey inspection and I'm road legal!!!
I'm leaving for British Columbia tomorow with the family in our van! ROADTRIP! We're gonna be gone for a week enjoying the beautiful sights of the Rocky Mountains in Jasper, Banff and then head south into British Columbia to a Glacier park and visit some relatives.
Spent yesterday packing up my father in laws apartment, who passed away last week. He was a real packrat, who never threw anything out. It's quite the job, plus it's a 240 mile drive to his place..............Hopefully, we can get it done by the end of the month.
He left the wife his little motorhome, so I can retire the old war wagon....77 Dodge conversion van. That , plus he had a ton of tools, which I will probably end up with as the other realatives have no use for.......................Probably, garage sale time.................
I dont have much mechanical problems, im always on top of em right after they happen or the next day...did have cooling probs last week, flushed my block and rad, changed hoses and thermo..
I would be painting my car this summer, but my neighbors will report me for sure.... i gotta wait till i make them move....which i will.
All week Ive been getting my truck ready for the car show next weekend. I had to work alot the past few days. I had to close the resturant on thursday night. Friday night was hell, It was extremly busy and we ran out of everything! I never knew so many people would get so pissed off for having to wait 5 more minutes for bread, that they get for FREE! Saturday night closed again, and today I opened the store, and closed again worked 13 hours straight with barely a 5 min break ain: Oh well Im young, I can handle it. Tomorow I have to take my truck to a stereo shop where my grandma is paying to have my alarm and keyless entry put in. I convinced her of helping me pay for it since Im moving into an apartment in the next 2 weeks.
Thats my busy life
bled the brakes on my jeep, that didn't work, replaced the shoes, linkage and master cylinder. i'm expecting too.
--a 4 spd that is
yep, it's time to retire the old, hardened, chipped three. soon i'll be looking into a lift kit, tires and a zz383 stroker crate from chevy. gunna whomp butt.
Air conditioning lines on a John Deere tractor and helped put a clutch in a huge dump truck. I've been greasier the last two days than I have in the last two years
Got my frame for my '54 Chevy half-ton rod ready for epoxy and got it sprayed yesterday afternoon (and the neighbors didn't report me).
Also, on Saturday, went over to the MIS race track for the annual Onsted Custom car show. Not huge, about 1230 some vehicles this year, but great quality and lots of good ideas. People willing to share lots of information about their rides. I talked to one of the organizers afterward and he said they gave out over 175 prizes and awards to entrants. Also, if you have a car in the show, for an extra $5.00 fee(money goes to charity), they let you take 3 laps on the track, but only at a top speed of 70 mph. A lot of people did that.
I cut all the spring perches, shock mounts, lower control arm brackets and panhard rod mounts off my rear end and hung a new set of springs. Mounted the rear in the car and located the spring saddles and tacked them in. In the meantime my wife made up a set of door panels and covered them. If I hadn't ran into a issue with the shock mounts I would've finished the rear suspension,,,,
Got the 5.0 Intake polished.Got one TPI runner polished. Got my brother mad at me,by informing the neighbor that he is real good with computers. :nono: That will not happen again.Went t o the drive in to see the Dukes and my damn stereo would not pick up their crappy signal.Had to leave, got my money back though.Made one cruise in.Complained to my wifes friend for breast feeding in front of me again. When a baby is attached to them,it just takes away from it all !!! Did not go get my intake from a friend for the second week in a row. Went and visited my Grandmother.Went in Papaws garage and hung out, looking around and always finding something new.Damn,I miss that old man. Guys go see your parents and grandparents. They enjoy it when you show up.
I started making a new air-filter unit on Saturday evening. Yesterday we went to show where we it took us 3 hours to walk through and then we only really looked at about 75% of the cars and I took 177 photos. The show was about an hours drive away too.
I have been spending every week end and week night working on my house. We had a ranch style house and now have a 2 story. (added upstairs) just after the siding was installed by my builder, he called it quites, left me hanging there with an unfinished project. Yes I could get another builder, but at this point the hard stuff is done. So I will finish it myself. Just got the drywall up and sanded (I contracted this job out) Last weekend I put on 15 gallons of wall primer on 1200 sq feet of living space. thats a lot of painting  . This weekend we picked out the flooring for the 2nd story (all hard wood) and the tiles for the master and kids bath. So I have 10 hour days a work and get home around 6:30 - 7:00 pm and work on the house until about 12 midnight. I hope to be completed before November 15th before the Deer season opens.
I spent Saturday working on my 88 Crown Vic. I installed a new distributor module. I found a vacuum hose that was disconnected and hoped it was the cause of the slight mis the car has. The hose was teed to the cruise control and A/C. The a/c works again the cruise control is ?? and the mis comes and goes. I then replaced the front sway bar bushings and end links. Finally, I replaced the original rear springs with some progressive rate ones. They ride nicely and are supposed to allow me to load the truck up and not drag the back bumper.
spent about 10-13 hours trying to adjust my carb i just rebuild only to go out today and find the fuel bowl was cracked and leaking into the intake causing my flooding condition
Went to the cottage to bring a newer refrigerator because the handle on the old one broke. It was a '50's Philco and still worked. Was kinda sad to see it go. New fridge is bigger though. Will hold more beer.
On the project front: Brought my wheel wells, rad cradle and battery tray to get sandblasted. Picking them up tonight. Will be my first time trying out that POR 15 stuff I discovered on this website.
Finally shipped off the lathe I sold on E-Bay to it's new owner in Hawaii, I utilized the sides boards off my trailer to construct the crate...I even reused the old screws. Good thing I built it sturdy, the shipping company didn't have a yard forklift so we had to hand bomb the whole assembly onto the dock. Sheesh!
For the first saturday in about 7 months i got to work on my own car.... I got the inner fenders for my 68 fixed up and painted, got the splash pan painted and all the grill attaching hardware...... I did quit at 1:00 so i could go to the drags. my customer went out in the first round with a red light but i did get to see some fast cars..... 6.40's from a small block turbo corvette in pro mod.......
went to church sunday, took a nap sunday afternnon... and back at it monday...
not a freeking thing. 3 weeks ago, I sprained my knee. I feel absolutely worthless. MRI today. Wonder if I did damage?
How did I do it? Walking across the garage floor, spun to the left real quick to put a tool away, and KERPOW!! Hello sprain !!! Getting older SUCKS! Doc says I have to leave the tools where I get done with them.
Jumped out of planes, fell off roofs, fell THROUGH a building (long story), more football and soccer games than 5 kids could play, and nothing. Walk across a clean garage floor, and WHAM!
Got most of my home built rotisserie welded up. Waiting on the pipe for the rotation point and the casters. Soon I'll have the 54 dodge right where I want it.....
After $500 in materials I should have a beefy rotisserie that will work well beyond this project, however the biggest problem will be storage, as it doesn't break down very far. It does however take up less than the 54 is right now as the frame takes up one bay and the body the other. Oh well guess its about time to build an addition on the garage.
Finished buffing out the new paint on the Camaro and repainted the oversprayed chassis parts semi-flat black. Filled some pin holes on the hood & hope to paint it this weekend.
