It sounds like your building a monster, 35..
This really is the best hotrod site on the web.I've asked some pretty specific questions and always got a proper answear,no matter what area of the car it was about...A lot of you guys that dont do this for a living are really doing some spectacular, jaw dropping work...I guess if your a craftsmen at heart, it dosent matter much what kind of material your using your going to do some nice work...Time after time I see some guy do his first paint job at home in the garage and I just cant believe how great it turned out.lots of talent here thats for sure... |

Oh heck yes this is the best hotrod site on the web!
This is what I did today, measured off the bow height and pulled all the top stuff out of the boxes. A little disappointed but we will see. I have posted over on the interior forum if you want details. ![]() ![]() Brian |

Thanks, DBM-I am afraid you're right, as this thing has gotten out of control, and I'm afraid I have read too many of the "Hot Rod" type of Magazines through the Years, or maybe I'm trying to relive the 70's- Anybody got some Viagra? Seriously, guys like Bad Rat and 1971BB427 are giving me a complex with their cool builds-gotta keep up with the Joneses ya know- Brian, you are a braver man than me to tackle that Convertible Top-I thought they worked through some kind of voodoo! |

I hope everybody knows you have to walk around the car three times, blessing it with a chicken before you start...... Sometimes some of the obvious, most basic steps are overlooked because we forget to mention them

Well, I would be tickled to tell you all I finished the rumble seat but alas, it is now time to start the cushion.
. Hope it goes as well. Actually, it should be easier.

Heck yes John, that is one thing I can only dream of, and it looks mighty nice! Well guys my work tonight consisted of stopping at a few stores and buying my stapler and staples for the top. Coming home and changing the nipple on the stapler loading it up and testing it on some old and new tack strip material, it works like a charm. If the guys who know this stuff better than me can give me the thumbs up on my purchase I will be an official "upholsterer" and another step forward to going my top. Now all I need is some fresh garlic for my necklace.

I think you have exactly what you want. You may have to purchase different length staples before you are done but time will tell. On my old roadster I had to go through 5 layers of topping at one point. Top well, Window curtain, 2 thicknesses of top, hiddum strip. That thickness really adds up fast. I don't think the modern tops will have all those layers since there is no hiddum and you are going to put your top well on last. Your pads may be pretty thick though. There are people on here who can steer you right. I know just enough to be dangerous and definitely not enough to be telling someone else how to do it. I did take my top off and reinstall it very successfully so I am sure you can do it. I really am interested to know how you staple the top where it needs to be on that floating tack strip with it out of the car. I know it is done every day but it seems like it would be impossible.
