what distributor for a 4.3L V6 Chevy

I need to know what distributor to use on a non-computer, carburatored Chevy 4.3L V6. All I have at present is computor controlled unit. Surely, someone out there is making this engine work in a street rod.
Thanks

I have a solution, BUT, I cannot send you an e/mail with pictures so you can see what I suggest.

I do what you want all the time.

4.3 distributer

I think you can build v8 hei distributer with 4.3 parts. I don't know if the modual is the same. I think an intake is more of a problem than a distributer.

200/229 are both odd fire engines, the 4.3 is an even fire.

Regular e/mail address would help, that way, I can send pics of a dedicated 4.3 even fire V6 dist you desire.

gmwillys,

If you are working on the same 3.4 engine that is in my Lumina I do not think there is a way to do this change over with stock over the counter parts. This engine has four camshafts on top of the heads so there is no way to drive a distributor. There is a place where a distributor used to be in the block, but it is now under the intake manifold and because of the oversized heads this hole can not be reached without taking the head off of the firewall side of the engine. I know this because the oil pump drive cover in these engines leak oil and can only be repaired by pulling the head off.

Good Luck
Scholman

Topic header "what distributor for a 4.3L V6 Chevy"

Key there is "4.3L V6". Not 3.4L

Very early 2.8L 60 degree 49 states specification first generation V6 engines used a non-computer, remote coil'd HEI. Citation and the first year 2.8 S10 that weren't California computer controlled had them. The 2.8/3.1/3.4L distributors won't interchange into a 299/229/4.3L V6.

e-mail: calcombs@frontiernet.net I know that I can buy a after market aluminum intake & a 500 cfm carb, but haven't found a supplier for the HEI distributor. I have several old V8 HEI distributors that I could rob the parts from!

I tried to send you a PM, it's blocked on your end. The trouble w/displaying email addresses is it's an invitation to get spammed.

Could you unblock your PM?

Or, better yet, show the details here on the forum?

Thanks.

Some 85-86 4.3L even-fire V-6 engines with federal emissions had a large-cap HEI distributor that still retained conventional mechanical and vacuum-advance provisions (NAPA remanufactured PN NRD481685, Hollander Salvage Yard Interchange No. 2221).

This was the stand-alone HEI, w/o ECM/feedback.
