what to do with this 7.5" 10bolt rear end

i just picked up a open 3.23 from a 83 malibu to replace the 2.73's in my grand prix, i think they would be the best gear for my tire size(295/50R15) and TH350 trans and still be able to hit the highway.

the center section of the diff was really greasy so i soaked it in degreaser and pressure washed it as good as i could for $8 at the car wash, it seems like it was covered in road tar. after getting most of it off i noticed the axles tubes look as if they were rewelded to the center section.

my questions are

1 - should i use this housing or swap the gears into another?(i have the original 2.29 complete rear still i kept for parts) will the same gears w/ shims work in another rear end or does it have to be reshimmed/meshed?

2 - is there anyway of telling of axle twist if they axles didnt have a paint stripe down them? where do they normaly twist?

3 - im looking for a reliable rear end, should i attempt to replace the axle bearings and the carrier and pinion ones as well? does this require reshimming/meshing the gears or do you just use the stock shims that come out?

anything else i should know? i attached a few pictures

rear end

looks like factory welds to me, unless it has had a lot of horsepower and sticky tires I doubt it has twist, but it looks like it has seen a lot of salt roads,.. I would bolt it in and try it out before taking it apart, UNLESS you have the dial indicators and some experience

Yes....unless you are familiar with setting up rear gears, paint 'er up and bolt 'er in...................You may want to pull the cover to see that the gears look OK.

Check the brake backing plates....those were prone to rust around where the wheel cylinders mount.

i pulled the cover off and the oil had already been drain out, gears seem to look fine.

The whole center section was just soaked and covered in grease and i think the pinion seal is possibly leaking. what is involved in installing new seals and possibly bearings? is bearing failure in these very known?

Not sure how long but the guy i bought it from was running it behind a 383(around 325hp @ crank).
